Russia in the World. A discussion held as part of the Paulsen Programme.

The Paulsen Programme

Funded by the Dr. Frederik Paulsen Foundation, the Paulsen Programme was established to support early- and mid-career historians based in Russia whose research focused on the history of the Russian Empire from the mid-seventeenth century to 1918. It sought to expand scholars’ access to international archives, libraries, conferences, and professional networks, while making their research more visible within the worldwide community of historians.

Alongside fellowships and conference grants, the Programme organised international research seminars in Saint Petersburg in collaboration with the Higher School of Economics. Alexander Semyonov and Dominic Lieven served as curators of the joint seminar programme. The seminars brought together historians of imperial Russia from different generations, institutions, regions, and national academic traditions. The Programme concluded with an international conference held in Kazakhstan in 2024.
